How can meal prep work for you?
The kids need to get ready and you’re late for work. Shoot! What’s for breakfast, lunch and supper today?
Yikes … for some, the internal critic steps in to reaffirm how stupid or screwed up you feel. Next comes the “Ah F*&% it” another fast and easy drive-thru kinda day. Which one will it be this time?…..
I kindly ask, how’s that working for you?

How to Meal Prep
Meal prep doesn’t have to be difficult. By setting time aside each week to plan, shop and cook meals will create healthy and happy tummies.
Here Are 3 Things To Do Each Week
Schedule
The Menu For The Week
When and What is needed to go shopping? Make a list and keep it close by so that you can easily access it for times you randomly need to add an item to the list. Keeping your meal prep list on your phone also allows you to access it if you need to stop by the store after work.
Cooking Day(s)
When will be the (batch) cooking days? Sundays and Thursdays work great for most of my clients. This is also where to schedule how many meals you might freeze and stockpile for future weeks.
Look ahead to ensure healthy eating strategies during the week. Especially during difficult times (e.g. a busy week, travelling, vacation, dealing with a family crisis, etc.)
Plan
The Layout
When and how to create variety in meals for the week.
Example:
- Italian – Pasta Monday
- Mexican- Taco Tuesday,
- Soup and Sandwich Wednesday,
- Social Event – Thursday,
- Healthy Meal Delivery Friday
- Social Dinner at a Restaurant Saturday
- Family Dinner Sundays
You can also include planning healthy meals through meal delivery services or by deciding in advance what to order at a restaurant. This makes it easier to pre-plan your meals for the week!
Execute
On Cooking Day(s):
- Wash and Chop Vegetables
- Cook/prepare Protein (e.g. cooking chicken breasts)
- Cook Meals in Bulk (e.g. casseroles, soups, stews, chilli, pasta sauces)
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients for Things like Super Shakes or Healthy Muffins, Pancakes or Cookie Mixes.
- Have Soaked Grains/beans Prepped Beforehand so They’ll Be Ready on Cooking Days
- Sort Food into Smaller Containers or Bags
- Freeze and Refrigerate Food for Later
Meal Prep for the Win
By spending a couple of hours a week on scheduling, planning and cooking meals for the week ahead you will find it will bring you healthier, happier mornings.
This will increase your chances of success when it comes to getting the kids ready for school, yourself off to work or even just to feel secure in knowing you don’t have to stress about what to eat for the rest of the week. Chances are, you may even find those couple extra pounds fall off a little more easily. No internal critic needed.
Closing Remark
I hope this finds you well. The fate of your health is in your hands. Go forth, schedule, plan and cook some food. Each week stay objective and look for any roadblocks that may come up before they happen. As always, be compassionate to yourself and others while staying committed to your health. After all, you value a better quality of life.
